How resizing works

Pixel dimensions and aspect ratio

Every image is a grid of pixels. Its dimensions are simply how many pixels wide and how many pixels tall that grid is — for example 4032 × 3024 px from a phone camera. Resizing rebuilds that grid at the size you ask for.

Aspect ratio is the relationship between width and height. With Lock aspect ratio on, editing the width updates the height automatically (and the other way round) so the picture keeps its proportions instead of looking stretched. Unlock it only when you need exact custom dimensions and do not mind the distortion.

Downscaling — making an image smaller — is the most common and most reliable direction: detail is condensed and the file usually becomes lighter. Upscaling is possible, but enlarging cannot create detail that was never captured, so a bigger copy of a small image typically looks softer rather than sharper.

Animated GIFs are resized using the first frame, and multi-page TIFF files use the first page, matching how PixDeer converters behave.

Your image stays in the browser

The resizer reads, decodes, and re-encodes supported images on your device. The image file itself is not uploaded to a PixDeer server. Pick a file up to 25 MB, set your dimensions, and download the result without creating an account.
